contact Dr. Susan Burnett a special education advocate

School progress reports are here. As a Special Education Advocate I can help you, it is not too late!

Has This Happened to You?

If any of these situations have happened to you and you don’t know what to do about them, an advocate will be able to help you.

  • Your child is struggling to earn average grades to pass his or her classes, even with a great amount of support from yourself, yet your school district deems your child ineligible for special education services.
  • School states that they will not assess your child for a disability until they are 2 years academically behind.
  • Do you wonder if your child’s goals are calibrated to provide meaningful growth?
  • Your district has denied your child special education eligibility.

Our goal is to help you build productive dialogue and strong collaborative relationships with your child’s educational team and school district.

We will provide you with the expert advice and tools you need to help your child succeed, and to help you become a more effective special education advocate for your child and their needs.

We can help you navigate the special education process and IEP meetings. Our services include:

  • Review educational records
  • Attend IEP and 504 meetings
  • Do school/classroom observations
  •  Review private and/or school Assessment Reports (can do review of assessments as a standalone service)
  • In preparation for IEP advocates will propose goals, review supportive evidence and materials.
  • Will draft letters and written requests to school
  • Will draft complaints to the State Department of Education
  • Can recommend a list of attorneys’ if needed

  OCT

The goal is for parents and caregivers to learn the special education process and become more knowledgeable about the IEP process to guarantee that their child receives a free and appropriate education (FAPE).
